G-Etronax B (PF GC 21) is phenolic-resin based, where the other glass-reinforced G-Etronax grades are epoxy or silicone. Under sustained heat it is far less temperature-stable than epoxy or PI, but it has one distinctive property: when briefly exposed to a very high temperature, a chemical reaction in the resin structure lets it withstand extreme heat for a short time, outlasting many other materials in that specific scenario.
This is the property the defence sector values it for. G-Etronax B is often used in single-exposure applications where something is fired or burned off once, rather than applications with repeated or sustained heat loading.
G-Etronax B and PI sit at opposite ends of the same trade-off: sustained, repeated heat versus a single brief exposure. For a one-off extreme-heat application, B is the more economical choice; PI earns its price premium when the heat load is continuous or repeated.
Suitable for electrical insulation and other electrical applications.
Suitable for applications where the materials are exposed to mechanical impact.
The material remains functional and retains its properties even at high temperatures.
The material does not contain halogens.
