Energy surcharge

It takes energy to produce composite materials that are among the best in the world. We work diligently to optimise our processes and plant, but regardless of the effectiveness of our results, energy is required to produce and process composite into our customers’ finished components.

Increasing energy prices

Energy has become a very expensive resource, and therefore, all of our products are subject to an energy surcharge.

Because we had to introduce the surcharge in response to increasing energy prices in Q3 2021, this means that when the energy prices once again drop to the level prior to Q3 2021, the energy surcharge will be abolished.

Monthly adjustment of the energy surcharge

We are trying to be very transparent with respect to the calculation of our surcharge, and it is important to us that our customers are only charged the amount that corresponds to the actual increase in energy prices. Therefore, every month, we will adjust our surcharge in accordance with the current market prices.

The current energy surcharge for a given month will always be based on the average for the previous month. This means that, as our customer, you can be certain that you will always know the current month’s energy surcharge and the basis for its calculation.

This is how Elektro-Isola calculates the energy surcharge

The energy surcharge has been calculated as an average of the current prices for natural gas, based on the previous month.

In order to inform you of the new surcharge before the next month begins, our calculation will be offset by five days.

This means that the surcharge that is based on the readings from 25 August 2022 until 25 September 2022 will apply to the products delivered in October 2022.

The energy surcharge is determined according to index 100, as at 1 July 2021. Depending on the difference from index 100, our energy surcharge will be determined according to the table below.

NB

Please note that in 2023, we have had no option but to raise the percent share of our indexation below.

As mentioned, the surcharge is calculated as an average of the current prices for natural gas, based on the previous month. The energy surcharge is a surcharge which covers a percentage share of our total energy costs. The energy surcharge therefore contributes towards covering our costs for utilities such as electricity, even though the surcharge is calculated on the basis of gas prices.

As of 1 January 2023, we have seen a particularly sharp increased rise in our fixed electricity costs of over 150%, and resultantly we have had no option but to increase the percentage share of our indexation. These sharp rises are due to the fact that our fixed energy prices for 2023 are set by our provider at the end of 2022, and that price developments in 2023 have been hugely unpredictable due to considerable fluctuations in electricity prices.
